I will keep you guys updated!!!
I stopped in your Granite City, IL K-Mart to pick up an inflatable wading pool for my boys.
Upon entering the store, I went straight back to the pool section and was delighted to see that a sign stating that all pools were on sale! I looked around for a while and settled on a pool that looked like a Giraffe. The sign beneath the pool stated that is was $22.99.
When I was checking out, I wanted to be sure that the pool rang up correctly. I asked my young, male cashier what the pool rang up as. He told me that it rang up for $43.50. I told him that price was incorrect. I told him about the sign and all of the sale tags. He walked over and asked another cashier and said that no my pool was not $22.99.
I was pretty frustrated because I had seen the sign. I asked him if it wasn’t $22.99, then how much should it be. He said the sale price was $43.50. At this point, I picked up the pool and showed him where it was priced. I said look this is the original price, what is the sale price? He told me that the sale price was $43.50 and when it was marked on sale they took off the original price tag.
He was very rude throughout the time. Then, he promptly just walked off leaving meand a whole line full of people without any explanation. When he returned, he came back holding a sticker. He told me that I was wrong and so was he. He said that the pool was on sale but for $34.50 or $35.50. At this point I was already upset at his manner and attitude. I told him that there were a whole stack of pools like the one that I had picked up under the $22.99 price tag and asked him if the store would honor the price because it had been misrepresented on the shelf. He said and I quote “Ma’m, I could take a Maserati back there and park it in the $22.99 spot, but you couldn’t buy it for $22.99.” I just kind of blinked. I asked him if that was the type of customer service that they provided at K-Mart. He just shook his head. I asked to talk to a manager.
I gave her a brief run down and what had occurred. I also told her that I did NOT appreciate being mocked by my cashier. He asked her, “She gets it for $34.50, right?” The manager said no to give it to her for $22.99 and shame on you, you know better to the cashier.
The keyed the price in the system. At this point, I was shaking I was so upset. As he hands me the pool, he says “I hope you enjoy your pool, Ma’m!” in the most sarcastic and rude way that I have ever heard from a cashier.
I stop in this K-Mart store quite frequently. I enjoy that I can stop on the way home from work. You have a loose cannon on your hands having that young man work directly with customers.
Also, I manage a savings blog. I am posting a copy of this letter on my blog to let everyone know about my experience and what K-Mart does or does not do to correct it.
Thank You.
